In 2013, as part of Bangladesh’s aim to digitize government processes, the country’s conventional Tax Identification Number (TIN) certificates were modernized and turned into electronic versions. Nearly everyone in Bangladesh, even those who file regular tax returns, is acquainted with the phrase “TIN certificate.” In order to create enterprises, get tax refunds, and engage in a variety of other activities, citizens of Bangladesh are required to have TIN certificates and TIN numbers.
You are required to get a Tax Identification Number (TIN) if your monthly income is around BDT 16,000. Aside from this, those who aren’t working may obtain a TIN if they feel the need to, and this includes stay at home mothers. Even if you do not have any income that is subject to taxation, you are still required to obtain a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) certificate if you own a vehicle or are a member of an organization that needs one. On the other hand, male taxpayers are exempt from having to pay tax if their annual income is less than BDT 2,50,000. The maximum allowable income is BDT 3,50,000 for females of any age as well as for any people older than 65 years of age. If a citizen with a disability has a yearly income that does not exceed BDT 4,25,000, they are exempt from having to pay taxes. You are required to file a “zero return” indicating your TIN even if your income is less than the tax threshold.
You will automatically be enrolled as a taxpayer once you get a TIN, which is the primary advantage of having one. Then you will be required to pay taxes on your income up to the threshold set by the government. These funds will be used to administer the nation. Once upon a time, when things like income tax and value-added tax were not there, the government would collect revenue from the land instead. But today, with the huge population with individuals having such a wide range of incomes, the government is forced to collect money in the form of income taxes in order to operate the country.
You may feel proud of your status as a taxpayer after you have obtained an e-TIN number. If you have a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), the banks will deduct 10% of the value of your savings as tax. If this is not the case, a 15% reduction will be applied. For example, let’s say you win a contest and the prize money is deposited into your bank account. If this happens, taxpayers who have a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) will be eligible for a 10% tax deduction, while those who do not have a TIN would have 15% of their winnings taxed. Although you do not need an e-TIN certificate to open a bank account, however, you will need TIN in order to take out a loan from the banks. At various points in time, the government makes accessible to certain professions or small business owners a variety of perks and incentives; however, access to any of these options is impossible without a TIN.
